Your First Visit

If you are a new patient planning your first visit to Bennett A. Thomas, DDS and Associates, we look forward to welcoming you to our extended family! We want to tell you how much we value you and appreciate that you chose us as your new dental home. Here are a few things to keep in mind which will help you have a comfortable, stress-free first visit.

Forms and Paperwork

The paperwork you fill out when you become a patient is an essential part of your dental history.

If possible, please complete your new patient forms before you arrive. We want to be sure that your valuable time is spent with your dental team and not filling out paperwork. Please refer to our patient Forms page or patient portal to find everything you need.

You should also bring:

  • Any insurance cards you plan to use
  • A drivers license or photo ID
  • A current list of all medications

We have never met a stranger, and when you arrive at our office, a member of our front desk team will greet you warmly by name and ask about your day. They will review your paperwork and prepare for your appointment while you relax in our welcoming reception area during your brief wait.

Meeting Your Team

We will schedule your first appointment with your personal dental team. At our Great Bridge Chesapeake dental office, we believe you deserve the benefits of continuity of care. For this reason, we will assign one of our dentists and hygienists who will be your partner in your oral health care every time you visit us. You will have the confidence of knowing there is always one professional you can turn to who knows you and understands your needs.

Your Dental Exam

We will do a comprehensive exam and a full set of x-rays, to make sure we take a look at each tooth individually. Together, your dental team—dentist, hygienist, and assistants—create a map of how you started here in our office and will then evaluate and prioritize the treatment you may need.

Before you leave, our treatment coordinators will review the cost of treatment and explain how your insurance applies.

Your Dental Cleaning

Most of our patients do have their dental cleaning on their first visit. However, if we find evidence of gum disease that requires advanced treatment, we probably won’t have enough time to provide the thorough care you need. In this case, we will reschedule you for the proper amount of time and treatment.

Welcome back!
We want our patients to be aware that their safety is our primary concern. Our office has placed additional precautions to protect our patients and staff during this unprecedented time. In addition to the recommendations by the ADA (American Dental Association) and CDC (Center for Disease Control), we have implemented the following in our office:
1. The office was recently equipped with a UV air filtration disinfectant system, located in each operatory. 
2. Prior to entering the office, all staff members and patients will complete a COVID-19 screening questionnaire and have their temperature taken and recorded. 
3. Strict rules of social distancing will be followed. Patients will stay in their cars until notified to enter the building. Only patients will be allowed in the operatory rooms. Please call ahead if any special accommodations are needed.
